10 Simple Ways to Repair Damaged Hair

Spread the love

We all are guilty of treating our hair like a lab experiment. We tend to try all the contemporary hairdos and styling trends. These involve exposure to sheer heat that damages our hair. The use of hair straighteners, dryers, curling tongs, and other hot tools is very common. We compromise on the health of our hair when it comes to these addicting fashion trends and this is where we damage our hair the most. Apart from the styling trends, some of the hair care products are also harmful to our hair. Especially those with high concentrations of sulfates and fragrance.

Our hair strands actually have three layers. The outer layer, called the cuticle protects our hair. When the cuticle is damaged, the hair becomes brittle and dry. The chemical-laden inputs, combined with damaging factors like exposure to heat, pollution, sunlight, and others are responsible for the hair damage. But the good news is that there are ways with which you can revive your locks and treat your lifeless, dry, and brittle hair.

Let’s find out how!

1.    Use Sulfate-Free Hair Products

Selecting the right shampoo formula is not an easy task. The market is full of shampoos and conditioners that have high amounts of sulfates, fragrance, and other detergent-like ingredients. They essentially eliminate the natural moisture of the hair. These products leave hair dull, brittle, and lifeless. Therefore, try opting for natural products. However, using a clarifying shampoo once a month or so will help you get rid of the extra grease and grime in your hair.

2.    Repair the Damage with Avocado

Mash one ripe Avocado and mix it with an egg. Apply this mask in moist hair. This fruit is rich in Vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. It will help you restore the luster and volume to your hair. Leave the mask for 20 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. To achieve better results, repeat this once a week.

3.    Butter Massage

This home remedy can effectively help you treat dry and brittle hair with a little amount of butter. Massage butter in dry hair and cover it with a shower cap for about half an hour. Wash with your regular shampoo and rinse the butter out thoroughly. Do this often to treat you dull and damaged hair.

4.    Condition with Olive Oil

If you feel that, your hair is absolutely deprived of moisture and looks dull and dry then this method will help you restore moisture. Warm up half a cup of olive oil and massage it into your hair and scalp. Cover the hair tresses with a shower cap or a plastic bag and then wrap it up in a towel. Let it sit for a good 45 minutes. Shampoo and rinse.

5.   Dry Gently

We all dry our hair every morning in a hurry while running late for school or work. Be gentle when you are drying your wet hair. Rubbing hard in a hurry will dehydrate and entangle your hair, and will cause hair breakage. Also, do not expose very wet hair to the dryer.

6.   Comb Carefully

Damaged and dehydrated hair is prone to breakage since it is weak and delicate. Extreme dragging and pulling especially when you massage and comb your hair will encourage more breakage. Try using a brush or a wide-toothed comb to entangle hair before you go in the shower. Try not to get a texture managing and detangling comb with widely spread out and robust teeth, since it breaks and damages the texture of the hair.

7.   Trimming Hair

Do split ends get you depressed? Trimming is perhaps the simplest and straightforward method to treat this frustrating hair condition. Trimming also helps cuticle damage and the damaged caused by chemical and heat exposure.

Trimming your lengthy locks is not easy and might cause a bit of anguish. But, it is definitely a healthier option if you really want to manage your damaged hair. Consider trimming your hair every 2-3 months.

8.    Rinse with Tea

Tea is not only a sore throat remedy, but it can also work wonders with your hair. It can help you get a natural shine in your hair. Use unsweetened and warm tea (instant or freshly brewed) after the regular shampoo as a final rinse.

Tea can also enhance hair color. So, pick the right tea for the shade of hair that you have. Blonde-haired women are recommended to use chamomile tea, as black tea may lead to darkening the hair. Brunettes are recommended to use black tea to enrich color and enhance shine.

9.    Eat Omega-3s

Consider taking 250-mg capsules of primrose oil, borage oil, or flaxseed oil 1 to 3 times a day. These are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and are great for keeping hair and even nails moisturized.

10. Say No to Dyeing and Chemicals

Chemical-laden products are the worst enemy of your hair. Stop dyeing, bleaching, or perming your hair on regular basis. Avoid chemical treatments to already-damaged hair. Even restorative treatments that are offered at salons incorporate chemicals. Hence, relying on natural ingredients and treatments is the safest idea.
