Whether you are planning to hire professionals or go the DIY route, these 5 modern and helpful tips will come in handy when you need to introduce an activity gym mirror in your dance/yoga club.

(1) Not All Mirrors are Created the Same — Do Your Research

That’s right; not all mirrors are suitable for a high activity room like a gym mirror, dance mirror or yoga studio. It should possess certain qualities that would help you get the most out of it. When doing your research, here are some key things to look for in a perfect activity mirror:

  • It should be shatter-proof and safe enough for people to workout around it
  • It should offer a subtle balance between weight and strength quality. Lightweight mirrors often fit snugly and are easy to stick on the wall, but they can be inferior in sturdiness. It’s a trade-off that you need to consider carefully.
  • It should provide sharp, crisp and quality reflection with little or no distortion
  • It should come complete with the mounting bells & whistles. This particularly important if you’re going to install the mirror yourself. Make sure that the mirror is sold with mounting hardware like screws, clips, mirror glue, J channels, and so on.
  • It should have no seams because they can be quite annoying.

(2) Get the Size and Location Right

In an ideal sense, one large panel should do the trick, but 2 or more mirrors can be installed together if need be. Smaller mirrors tend to be cost-effective and easier to install, but they also have their own downsides.

Talking of location, the mirror should go to the walls that are close to where to do most of the dancing, practicing, and yoga activities. Choose a wall that is well-lit, has plenty of room, and isn’t close to most of your club equipment.

(3) Consider the Overall Safety

In every yoga or dance club, safety is always of paramount importance. Try to obtain the thickest mirror (especially if you go for acrylic ones) to prevent distortion or reflection degradation over time. You should also consider polishing the edges or installing safety backing.

The safety of the mirror often boils down to the actual installation and type of mounting used. Use a strong adhesive to secure the mirror to a clean, even and non-porous wall. That means no bare brick or concrete walls.

If your wall of choice isn’t smooth or flat, then you need to use J channels. However, ensure that the wall itself is strong and sturdy enough. J channels are a mounting solution for a safe and permanent gym wall mirror. What if you’re renting? For the possibility of moving in the future, you’re better off using screws to attach the mirror to the wall.

(4) The thickness of the Mirror is More Important than you Think

When shopping for a studio wall mirror, thickness might be the last thing that comes to mind. But it should be. 3mm mirrors are a big no-no for dance and yoga studios. Instead, go for 6mm or thicker mirrors that will withstand odd impact and continuous reverberations. Besides, they are less likely to break on an occasional bump.

(5) Buy from the Right Vendor

You can find a wide range of activity mirrors online, and they come in all price-tags, sizes, and shapes. The downside: you won’t get to see it before the mirror arrives. That’s why it pays to do some due diligence on the vendor. Read online reviews, as well as get recommendations from fellow yoga/dance instructors.
